Adams

  • Indeterminate (flowering continues while harvesting ripe berries during same 2-5 week period)

  • Flowers - Adams is  a good variety from which to harvest flowers because it will continue to produce more over longer time

  • Berry size = medium which means less juice but berries will be easier to dry and with more berries per cyme

  • Very productive, 1920’s older selection from NY state

  • One of the first great varieties and continues to be regarded as one of the best you can grow

  • Adams is a strong, dependable and productive variety in our orchard!

Bob Gordon

  • Determinant to semi-determinant.( has a shorter bloom & harvest period than Pocahontas but longer than Ranch)

  • Blooms and ripens 1 to 2 weeks after Ranch

  • Decumbent heads (droop down when ripe) and this is a real perk, discouraging birds from eating berries as easily

  • Berry size is medium to large  on large umbels (flower heads) and therefore, large cymes (berry clusters) of fruit

  • Desired by winemakers due to flavor and high brix (sweetness)

Pocahontas

  • Fast growing, vigorous, and extremely prolific.

  • Flower cymes are very large, some up to 18” across!

  • Individual berry size is small but berry cluster umbels are very large

  • Expect big yields by year three

  • Late to flower, late to ripen (into October in my orchard!)

  • Some canes may need support due to such large flower heads and berry clusters.

Ranch

  • Determinant (bloom time and berry harvest occur during a shorter 2 - 3 week period)

  • 1st to bloom in June, with harvest usually beginning six to 8 weeks later in August

  • More tolerant of dry weather and poorer soils than other varieties

  • Shorter plant than Bob Gordon

  • Very vigorous and heavy yielding,

  • Ranch has been the backbone of my orchard success.

  • Regrows well after coppicing (cutting back when dormant)

Please note:  Because successful growth depends upon your skills, mother nature, and a variety of other factors we can't control, we will include a couple extra cuttings with each order to help you be successful with your planting efforts. We offer NO guarantees with our cuttings.
